Arthur Uscher (1927-2017)
Arthur Uscher (1927-2017), longtime resident of Bergen County, and a member of the Bergen County Bar for more than 50 years, passed away in Deerfield Beach, Florida on October 20, 2017 at the age of 90. Born in the Bronx, “Art” served in the Navy and attended City College of New York. He began a career as a newspaper reporter for the Newark Star Ledger, and later for the Bergen Record while attending night school at Rutgers School of Law. He was a skillful and passionate advocate, capable of both brilliance and bombast, and was known for his sense of humor and innate sense of fairness. He was also an avid tennis player, a frustrated golfer, and a staunch democrat. He served briefly as a councilman in Maywood. Art was also the founding partner of the Hackensack Law firm Uscher,Quiat, Uscher & Russo, PC where he practiced for decades. Art is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florence Uscher of Deerfield Beach, Florida, by his sons Mitchell Uscher of Raleigh, North Carolina and Jeff Uscher of Bethel, New York, and by two grandsons, Owen Uscher of Wyckoff, New Jersey and Dylan Uscher of Boston, Massachuetts. He was predeceased by his son William Uscher in 2003. A memorial service is planned for the Spring of 2018.
Art was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1958, practicing before all trial and appellate State Courts, the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey, the U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is still active and provides a wealth of experience to season the substantial energies of his younger partners. Art is a graduate of The City College of New York (B.S., 1949) and Rutgers University (LL.B., 1957).
The majority of his practice experience is in commercial litigation, negotiation and business advice. Married for more than 50 years Art still enjoys weekly tennis and golf matches with friends.
